Our Glasgow based Maritime client requires a Career Development Officer to join them on a permanent basis. As Career Development Officer, you will be responsible for all deck officers' career and development management.
In addition, you will effectively manage a "hire to retire" process and ensure a pipeline of competent personnel are promoted and developed in accordance with the requirements of the company.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Familiar with industry regulations and operation of LNG Vessels (preferred) however open to candidates with experience working with other types of vessels.

Seagoing and/or human resources experience with knowledge of rank status in the maritime sector and appraisal/promotional processes.

Excellent organisation skills and ability to prioritise tasks.

Ability to engage with junior and senior officers regarding career development.

Ability to work under pressure to deadlines.

Fully proficient in Microsoft Applications.

Maintain and monitor records of appraisals, recommendations, rank time and promotion status to provide a pipeline of promotable officers.

Actively engage with seafarers through calls, conferences, ship and training centre visits.

Drive improvements in seafarer appraisal standards and provide feedback to appraisers.

Provide officer promotion projections to management and marine HR to ensure the fleet meets officer manpower requirements.

Schedule promotion interviews for officers.

Manage the onshore development programme and act as the direct reporting line for those attending the programme.

Integrate newly qualified cadets into the officer pool.

Set out career plans for newly graduated cadets to ensure maximization of SMART funding.

Provide the FPM and Leads with study leave/ superior license needs.

Seek input from other departments to identify talent performing above and beyond the standard requirements for promotion or for those pushing for a career ashore.

Liaise with the training department to identify which officers require courses/training.

Review performance appraisals and conduct subsequent calls to ensure positive trends.

Provide training on the appraisal process for new and existing staff including familiarisation during ship visits.

Showcase the Career Development Officer role and the career development pipeline through the CDO bulletin.

Review training courses to ensure they are relevant and meet our training needs and requirements.

Maintain knowledge of the legislative training requirements and ensure that training courses comply with existing and new requirements.

Work closely with the Training Centre Manager and LNG Instructor to ensure competencies are continuously maintained and updated.

Provide support to recruitment team by assisting with technical interviews for all ranks.

Provide support during new hire induction programme.
