Due to continued business growth our marine client in Glasgow is looking to add a Naval Architect to their renewables team, on a permanent basis.
 
As the Naval Architect, you will be responsible for undertaking project assessment, client interaction, tendering support and detailed engineering work alongside product development and R&D activities in support of Renewable Department objectives.
 
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
 
Essential:
  • Degree (2.1) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering or other related subject.
  • Strong knowledge in general engineering systems and analysis.
  • Experience in one or more software packages to allow familiarity with computational methods and approaches to engineering design.
Desirable:
  • Ideally 1-2 years' experience post grad in Wind Turbine Analysis, Riser Analysis, Offshore Installation Analysis, Structural Analysis or related fields.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Working towards CEng.
  • Experience in one or more programming language; Python, Matlab etc.
  • Offshore Certification & OGUK / ENG1 Medical.
  • Prior experience in Orcaflex is advantageous but not necessarily essential, as are abilities to code in Python.
  • Broad Rhino / Strand7 / Ansys / Solidworks experience.
  • Ideally the successful candidate will hold sufficient experience in some combination of the following technical fields:
    • Aerodynamics (of wind turbines).
    • Aeroelastic modelling of turbines.
    • Turbine control systems.
    • Mooring analysis and design.
    • Quayside mooring.
    • Hydrodynamic analysis of vessels and structures.
    • Riser or dynamic cable analysis and design.
    • OR closely related fields coupled with high level understanding of Classification Society or the overall regulatory environment as relevant to contribute immediately to the team activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Contribute to planning and delivery of engineering technical activities.
  • Consult with clients regarding work specifications, maintaining effective client interfaces.
  • Quality assurance of work performed by self and colleagues, ensuring compliance and alignment to all company procedures, industrial standards, and specific client requirements.
  • Support team members with technical and commercial requirements.
  • The candidate will exposed to multiple fields and aided to develop the experience to become a go-to expert in one or more chosen fields of expertise (e.g. mooring analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, vessel motions, riser design, etc).
  • Provide expertise on technical issues to ensure maximum possible conversion ratio from quotes to orders.
  • As required provide input / support to tendering and business development activities.
  • Liaise closely with the Renewables Manager to ensure they remain informed of all technical issues.
  • Liaising with Clients and updating project status under supervision.
  • Prepare quotes and costs for clients as applicable.
  • Detailed engineering work, including but not limited to, mooring analysis, offshore installation analysis, hydrodynamic analysis, quayside mooring analysis, dynamic cable design
  • Attend project meetings, project progress report, liaising with clients and contractors as necessary.
  • Ensure quality control standards are being maintained and implement quality control programmes where necessary.
  • Occasional offshore visits may be required on an ad-hoc basis and so too may be international travel e.g. to attend client meetings/conferences etc.
